Military announcement Army Spec. John G. Miller has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Miller is the son of John Miller of Oceanside, Calif.

He is a 2002 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School, Shillington, Pa.

Birth announcement Jessica and Robert Pennington, Douglassville, welcomed a baby girl into their family on Oct. 29, 2013 at the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.

With the help of the community, Tri-County Chiropractic, 990 East Benjamin Franklin Hwy., Douglassville, was able to raise over $2,000 for Relay for Life. That number is still growing! Thank you to all the members of the community who came out to help support such a great cause!

American Legion Post 626 is collecting Halloween candy to send to our troops. Your candy can be dropped at Birdsboro Borough Hall, Birdsboro American Legion.
