The Birdsboro Park and Recreation Board is hosting the first “Beautify Birdsboro” event May 10 as a way to clean the community for Earth Day.

The community is invited to participate in a variety of cleanup projects, improvement projects and yard sales throughout the day.

“Input is what makes [the community] vibrant,” Cindy McGee, Parks and Recreation, said. “We need to be partners to each other.”

The board is following the Earth Day motto of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” throughout the days’ events which include painting, mulching and planting at the parks, litter cleanup throughout the community to revitalize Birdsboro.

“With these cleanup projects, we’re preparing for summer,” Gloria Uhniat, Parks and Recreation Board, said.

Rustic Park Cleanup is scheduled from 8 to 11 a.m. which includes mulching and planting flowers as an effort to protect the park from erosion.

To properly clean the borough, the residents must work together in a collaborative effort to beautify their hometown. Churches, and community groups are welcome to bring their own project to the table and ask for volunteers.

“Cleanups are not limited to public space,” McGee said. You also do not need to be part of a group or organization to participate. McGee encourages the residents of Birdsboro to clean up their backyards as “it’s a positive thing in the community” to keep the borough looking fresh and clean.

“We’re proud of our past, making a difference for our future,” McGee said.

In recycling efforts, a community yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Main Bird Park.

A map will be posted at Borough Hall for the individual homes who participate.

McGee would like the borough to show their backyard community pride. If you see litter on the streets or lawns, pick it up and throw it away.

Along with the recycling theme, a “Give for the Chief” Blood Drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Borough Hall in memory of Francesco A. Mascaro, one of the owners of J.P. Mascero & Sons. Lunch, Italian desserts and a free t-shirt will be provided to all donors.

Sign up flyers are available on the Birdsboro Parks and Rec. Facebook page.

The board invites you to submit your idea and sign up to make Birdsboro a better place to live.
