A craft beer brewery will be coming to one local haunted house.

The Union Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a letter to the Zoning Board supporting the craft beer designation as a “good use” on the application to operate a brew pub at Brinton Lodge Haunted House, 1808 W. Schuylkill Road, Douglassville, during their Jan. 19 meeting.

Tim Reeser, who owns and operates the historic 1700s building, which previously operated as a restaurant, told the board that the brew pub would lease and operate out of the now unused kitchen.

The zoning board unanimously approved the application — with conditions — on Jan. 22.

Zoning board member Matthew Williams was absent from the meeting.

Operators of Hidden River Brewery said Jan. 19 that they would use local ingredients to produce unique interesting beers, with an emphasis on fresh and local.

They said 90 gallons would be produced per brew.

The maximum number of brews allowed per week is four, which would produce 360 gallons of beer.

No outside liquor or wine will be sold at Hidden River Brewery.

The brew pub must obtain a state brewing license, a brew pub license, and a federal license before it can open.

“It will be open five to six days a week and open if the Haunted House is closed,” Reeser said. “We haven’t decided how to close off the pub from the house; we want to allow the public to see the house’s historic parts …. and [things] that have been collected and are on display.”

Reeser said some previous zoning issues have been resolved: outdoor lights have been moved or angles changed and traffic control attendants are hired for large events.

“The value that I see as the property owner — it would be their own event generator,” Reeser said.
