Reading Area Community College (RACC) will offer a limited number of dual enrollment course scholarships for high school students to take classes during the fall semester.

The Foundation for RACC will award scholarships, funded by Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) donations, to one student who wishes to enroll in a dual enrollment course taught at the following high schools: Exeter, Twin Valley, Schuylkill Valley, Fleetwood, Hamburg, Muhlenberg, Tulpehocken, Oley Valley and Governor Mifflin.

Students who receive free or reduced lunch and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 are eligible to apply. Applications are due to the high school guidance office by September 15, 2015, and scholarship awards will be announced by October 1, 2015.

With the cost of college increasing nationally, Reading Area Community College is dedicated to making college affordable by offering high school students with many ways to earn transferable college credit before they graduate from high school. RACC created pathways of coursework that students can take at their high school, on campus and online. These offerings include art, business, creative writing, general education and general sciences. The Dual Enrollment Program is part of RACC’s Early College, which makes college affordable for families.

Andrea Swift, parent of two high school students attending RACC, states, “As a parent I think these courses are wonderful preparation to learn college management skills.”

Her daughter, Alyssa, has been accepted as a pre-veterinary student at Wilson College in Chambersburg. All her RACC credits transferred to Wilson College, saving her a year of private college tuition. Alyssa took dual enrollment courses at Schuylkill Valley High School and at RACC, and will finish her associate degree before graduating from high school.
