The Northeast Berks Chamber of Commerce announces its Second Annual Shining Star Event to be held at the Berkleigh Golf Club, 14623 Kutztown Rd, Kutztown on Thursday, Sept. 24.

Tickets are on sale now at $50 per person, $90 per couple or $350 for a table of eight. Secure online payment processing is offered at www.northeastberkschamber.com, or call the Chamber at 610-683-8860.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for butlered and stationed hors d’oeuvres and two cash bars. Berks County Living will set up a photo display and take pictures of Shining Star guests for its B Scene feature. Dinner will follow to include seafood skewers and asiago chicken, twice-baked potatoes, fresh string beans and caesar salad. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are also offered for those with dietary restrictions. Dessert, soft drinks, coffee and tea are included.

Jason Brown, a Lehigh Valley-based standup comic, will serve both as emcee and entertainment. Brown entered the world of comedy about six years ago. A graduate of the Upright Citizens Brigade School in NYC for Sketch Comedy, he has performed all over the East Coast.

His unique and sometimes dark view of the world leads to some hilarious observations and revelations. His jokes have been featured on IFC, Comedy Central and The Howard Stern Show.

The Shining Star Awards presentation will be recorded live by BCTV. Finalists and a winner from each of six categories (small business, mid-size business, large business, entrepreneur, nonprofit and advocate) will be recognized that evening. Of these, one will become Member of the Year. For a second year, the Reading Chapter of SCORE, led by J. Russell Hoke, is judging the nominees based on their detailed responses to questions related to business and community involvement found on the nomination form at www.shiningstarevent.com.
