John J. Schultz III, 16, son of John and Rose Schultz, Hamburg, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

John’s Eagle Scout project involved building a 16″ by 16″ deck near the scout cabin on St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran property. The deck will be used by church members, boy and girl scouts and other church organizations.

He is a member of Troop 184, which is sponsored by St. John’s Evangelical Church in Hamburg, where he has been a patrol leader, senior patrol leader at summer camp, assistant senior patrol leader and is currently the senior patrol leader of the troop.

Schultz has earned 62 merit badges. His goal is to earn 75 merit badges by his eighteenth birthday. He also earned a bronze palm.

His special activities include summer camp for six years at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation, a troop trip to the National Jamboree, a trip to Gettysburg and a Canadian canoe trip. He is a brotherhood member of Kittatinny Lodge No. 5, Order of the Arrow.

Schultz is a junior at Hamburg Area High School.

He enjoys scouts, collecting military items, baseball, and track. He is a member of the Military History Club at school, and he participates in winter and spring track as a javelin, shotput and discus thrower.
