Hamburg Area High School celebrated its annual homecoming during the week of Sept. 21 to 26. The high school students participated in spirit week with dress up days including superhero day, squad day, neon day, Disney day and red and white day on Friday with an all school pep rally.
Friday night before the football game the king, Tyler Herber and queen, Chelsea Forrest, were crowned. The court included seniors Aaron Nelson, Michael Madara, Erik Fleischel, Janson Youndt, Chyanne Lesher, Cheyenne Rudis, Hannah Burns, and Hannah Shirk.
Tyler Herber is captain of the Hamburg football team, wrestles, and runs track. He is in LISA, chemistry club, National Honor Society, and student council. He is president of the physics club, and is wilderness club vice president. Tyler says he was “too focused on the game to even think about homecoming!”
Aaron Nelson is on the Hamburg football and track team. Michael “Mike” Madara is the National Honor Society historian and is in physics club, chemistry club, and social studies club. He also wrestles for Hamburg and plays football.
Erik Fleischel is in Science Olympiad and is also in National Honor Society. He is president of the German club and plays ice hockey for the Hawks.
Janson Youndt is in chemistry and volleyball club. For the past four years, Janson has played golf for the Hawks. Outside of school, he plays ice hockey.
Chelsea Forrest is captain of Hamburg’s cheerleaders and is treasurer for student council. She participates in winter and spring track.
Chyanne Lesher plays softball, and is captain of the girls soccer team. She is also in National Honor Society, LISA, chemistry club, and is secretary of the Spanish club. In addition she is in volleyball club and is on the Mini-Thon committee.
Cheyenne Rudis participates in wilderness club, art club, and publications.
Hannah Burns is president of Hamburg student council and is active in the TV studio, wilderness club, Spanish club, LISA, chemistry club, National Honor Society, field hockey, winter track, bowling, and spring track.
Hannah Shirk is also in National Honor Society and is vice president of the class of 2016. She is the student council secretary, and participates in wilderness club, LISA, prom committee, and chemistry club.
The football team won 55-26 against Fleetwood. The boys soccer team won against Schuylkill Haven with a score of 1-0 and the girls did the same with a score of 2-1. The field hockey team beat Saucon Valley with a 4-1 win, and the girls tennis team beat Kutztown Friday night 5-2 and Daniel Boone on Saturday with a 5-2 win.
