Fleetwood Girl Scout Brownie Troop 1793 visited Officer Woods and Officer Parks at the Northern Berks Police Station. The girls learned about how the police officers protect them and keep them safe.

They learned about the process that the officers follow when they protect the public by bringing in the bad guys. Their trip included a tour of the interrogation room, the offices and the cell. The officers showed the Girl Scouts how to use the Breathalyzer test. The tour ended with the girls checking out the police car and getting to learn about some of the tools the officers use to protect everyone. Each girl was able to sit in the front seat and turn on the lights and sirens – that was awesome!

The Brownie Girl Scouts wanted to do something nice for the officers so they asked the department what the troop could collect for them. The officers said they would like something simple like snacks. The girls took up a collection of snacks and brought them when they went for their tour. The girls learned that often the officers become busy and are unable to take a break. Sometimes, too, they keep things on hand for those that are homeless. The Northern Berks Police were very appreciative for all of the items the girls collected. They told the Girl Scouts that this was the most they have ever been given. It made the girls feel very good.

The Brownie Girl Scouts were able to understand the proper use of calling 911 and the importance of being safe and how the officers keep them safe.
