Small Business Saturday after Thanksgiving is a campaign that encourages holiday shoppers to shop local for their gifts.
Morgantown Area Business Association supports Shop Local.
“We always ask people to shop local,” said MABA President Roseann Thomas.
Thomas is also a small business owner herself. She and her husband Joe own A2A Services – Vacs +, the vacuum cleaner repair and supply shop they run in the middle of Morgantown.
“I always try to shop local because. Support your friends. If you don’t, who’s going to do it?” she said.
One of the ways MABA encourages its members to shop local is through their membership directory, which prints once a year. On the front of the directory, MABA asks members to shop local. Inside, MABA business members and their contact information are listed to help people find local services and businesses to meet their needs.
MABA prints 16,000 copies of the directory, out of which they mail 15,000 throughout the Tri County region, including Morgantown, Pottstown, Elverson, Honey Brook, New Holland, Birdsboro, Mohnton and Narvon, to name a few.
“I think that very much encourages people to shop local,” said Thomas. “(Shopping local) builds up the economy here.”
MABA is in the process of creating their 2016 directory. New members are encouraged to join and will be listed in the new directory.
