Concealed Carry Classes: Cabela’s has partnered with Legal Heat to provide classes to meet qualifying requirements and documentation to obtain the PA, AZ concealed carry permits. Permits allow combined carry in more than 37 states. Covers firearms safety, handling, transportation, storage, ammunition, self-defense and firearms laws, concealed carry techniques and more. Sculpey Workshop: 6 p.m. Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Rd., Reading. Aug. 28

Mended Heart: Salem-Berne United Methodist Church, 292 Salem Church Road, Hamburg, hosts musical group Mended Heart of Pine Grove for their worship service at 10 a.m. in the pavilion. After the service is a pot luck picnic.

Sept. 1

Hamburg Area Historical Society meeting: 7 PM in the Large Group Instruction room at the Hamburg Area High School, Windsor Street, Hamburg. The program for the evening will be a slideshow featuring then-and-now pictures of Shoemakersville by Bob Noecker entitled “Shoemakersville On the Move”. Free and open to the public. Sept. 10

Shoemakersville Fire Company Lights and Sirens Parade, Housing, Block Party and 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony: parade starts at 4 p.m. at Main Street and Zweizig Road following Main Street and ending on Franklin Street. After parade all return to fire house. At 5 p.m. is a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony followed by Block Party, featuring food, drinks, games, a beer garden, live band, MedEvac helicopter landing around 7 p.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m.

Cabela’s in Hamburg hosts its first ever Dutch Oven Cook-Off: on Sept. 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cabela’s partners with Randy Brown and the International Dutch Oven Society to present overview and hands on demonstration of dutch oven cooking. All aspects from preparation to dessert will be covered. Also hosting Fall Great Outdoor Days II and Waterfowl Classic with sales, guest appearances, seminars, sponsor exhibits.
