State Police Reading report that Joseph Andre, 81, Kutztown, was driving south on Garfield Road in the area of Center Road in Centre Township on Aug. 18 at 2:06 p.m. when he steered off the roadway to avoid striking an oncoming vehicle. His 1980 BOSS 2 dump truck traveled off the western edge of the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Andre was not injured. The dump truck was able to be driven from the scene. Frontier Communications was contacted to replace the pole.
Mailbox stolen from Jefferson Township residence
State Police Reading report that a mailbox was stolen from a Jefferson Township residence on Bernville Road. The theft occurred sometime between 9 p.m. on Aug. 16 and 11:30 a.m. Aug. 17. The mailbox is a full-size black plastic mailbox that was cemented down onto a wooden post.
