Sept. 9: County Line Dancing at the Shoemakersville Fire Co. 300 Church Avenue. 7 to 10:30pm. Doors and the kitchen opens at 6 pm. Open to the public, must be 21.

Sept. 10: Lights and Sirens Parade, 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony and Block Party. Parade starts at 4:00pm, remembrance ceremony at 5 pm. Helicopter landing about 7 pm. Games, beer garden and food for everyone.

Hamburg Area Historical Society meeting: 7 PM in the Large Group Instruction room at the Hamburg Area High School, Windsor Street, Hamburg. The program for the evening will be a slideshow featuring then-and-now pictures of Shoemakersville by Bob Noecker entitled “Shoemakersville On the Move”. Free and open to the public. Leesport Area Community Days: Friday, Sept. 9 and Saturday, Sept. 10 at Leesport Playground. Friday, 5 to 10 p.m., Saturday, noon to 9 p.m. Food, games, rides, entertainment, exhibits, car show and 5K run. Fireworks at 9 p.m. Saturday.

Sept. 10

Shoemakersville Fire Company Lights and Sirens Parade, Housing, Block Party and 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony: parade starts at 4 p.m. at Main Street and Zweizig Road following Main Street and ending on Franklin Street. After parade all return to fire house. At 5 p.m. is a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony followed by Block Party, featuring food, drinks, games, a beer garden, live band, MedEvac helicopter landing around 7 p.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m.

Cabela’s in Hamburg hosts its first ever Dutch Oven Cook-Off: on Sept. 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cabela’s partners with Randy Brown and the International Dutch Oven Society to present overview and hands on demonstration of dutch oven cooking. All aspects from preparation to dessert will be covered. Also hosting Fall Great Outdoor Days II and Waterfowl Classic with sales, guest appearances, seminars, sponsor exhibits.

Strausstown Fire Company Car Show Breakfast: 6 to 10 a.m. at the Strausstown Community Campus, 50 East Avenue, Strausstown, and at the Strausstown Car Show; benefits the Apparatus Fund.

Sept. 17

Frieden’s Lutheran Church Apple Festival: at Frieden’s, 9727 Red Road, Kempton. Food served 2 to 8 pm; The Majestics Classic Country, Bluegrass and other music 5 to 8 pm. Rain or shine.

Sept. 24

Ladies Day Out: Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 24 & 25 at Cabela’s in Tilden Township. Team of experienced Outfitters offer seminars and hands on demos, such as Intro to Fishing, Intro to Archery, Ladies Handguns 101, Intro to Muzzleloaders. In addition representatives from various outdoor sporting organizations will be on hand to answer questions and introduce you to the outdoor life style.
