James Marciano, 20, Whitehall, led police on a high speed chase through Hamburg and into Leesport Sept. 5.
State Police report that Marciano was traveling west on Interstate 78 in the area of Exit 30, Hamburg Borough, Berks County when his vehicle speed was recorded on radar at 86 MPH in a posted 65MPH zone.
A traffic stop was attempted on Marciano as he exited the interstate at Exit 29. He failed to stop and then led State Police on a high speed pursuit south on Route 61. At one point he crossed over into the northbound lane and continued south for approximately one mile.
Marciano then attempted to turn west onto Peach Street in Leesport Borough. His 2008 Honda Accord hit a curb and stopped on the property at 202 Centre Ave. He exited his vehicle and failed to comply with the troopers’ requests. Marciano was then taken into State Police custody.
Marciano was held at Berks County night court pending the completion of a Criminal Complaint. Charges of Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police Officer, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Resisting Arrest or Other Law Enforcement and numerous traffic violations will be filed.
Investigation continues.
