A Morgantown couple celebrated their vows, and their wedding donations provided new computers for Morgantown’s Village Library.

Village Library Board President Mary Ellen Mahan and Joan Marie Hanley, vice president of KenCrest, were joined in marriage June 25 at All Souls Ecumenical Catholic Communion at Calvary United Church of Christ Church, 640 Centre Ave., Reading.

Both parties are very involved in charitable work in the Berks County area, which was symbolized with a “Library Vintage Botanical Theme” throughout the day.

Five pastors officiated when the couple exchanged vows.

In lieu of a unity candle, a unity Paw Paw Tree native to Berks County that bears fruit that the birds love was used during the ceremony, then was later planted.

A tree sculpture with seven candles representing loved ones both present and departed was lit by the youngest member of each family represented.

The wedding was followed by a cocktail hour in the Museum Lobby then a reception in the Galleries at the Reading Public Museum.

In lieu of gifts, donations to the Village Library of Morgantown Computer Fund resulted in a gift from the couple of all new computers for the library with the assistance of funds from the Rotary Club of Twin Valley.

Old drawers from a library card catalog were used to hold local seed packets filled with seeds collected from their own gardens and French Creek State Park, as well as Longwood Gardens that were given as favors. Each place setting had a fresh sprig of a local herb.

Rustic Bunch Florist of Leesport provided all locally grown and gathered flowers that bloomed in Berks County in June. The summer flowers colored the day in the bridal bouquets with purple, yellow and greens and filled the silver containers that the wedding couple collected from antique shops and yard sales for the past year.

Jan Rae Boutique of West Reading designed the vintage wedding garb for Mahan and Hanley.

The couple honeymooned for a week hiking and kayaking throughout Berks County then spent a week on Maine’s Desert Island in Acadia National Park.
