Now through Feb. 28Birdhouse show: An old-fashioned wall-mounted telephone, a vintage blue teapot and a cheerful yellow trolley are just a few of the more than 50 of hand-crafted birdhouses, bird feeders and 30 bird-themed quilted wall hangings, pillows and artwork that are up for bid in the ninth annual Birdhouse Show & Silent Auction, now through Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Garden Spot Village. Members of the Garden Spot Village Woodshop started the event in 2009 to raise money for the Benevolent Fund, which helps support residents who need financial assistance. In recent years, quilters and other needle-workers have also contributed items for the fundraiser. The Village Square Indoor Park is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The public is welcome to bid on any of the items in the silent auction, which will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28. Auction high bidders will be notified by phone to arrange for pick-up. The display is free and open to the public. The public is encouraged to call before visiting to make sure that the Village Square Indoor Park is open. Garden Spot Village is located at 433 S. Feb. 22High with Hope in Berks: an adaptation of the one-woman show Drunk with Hope in Chicago is a play about addiction, recovery and HOPE. Home Show: Western Chester County Chamber to hold Home Show on Feb. 27. In keeping with the Western Chester County Chamber of commerce’s vision statement, “to create a thriving region that is well connected, innovative & accessible for community & business growth,” they will be holding a Home Show at the Downingtown Country Club, (93 Country Club Road, Downingtown, PA) on Monday Feb. 27 from 4:30-7 p.m. Attendance by the public is free. Feb. 26 and 28Auditions: Forge Theatre, 214 First Avenue, Phoenixville,announces auditions of Man of La Mancha on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. Snow date March 2 at 7. March 4 and 11 Mental Health First Aider program: to be held at Honey Brook Township March 4 & 11 The Honey Brook Township Park and Recreation Committee is hosting a free, two-part Mental Health First Aider program at the Honey Brook Township Administration Building on March 4 & 11 from 8 a.m.to 12:30 p.m. This public education program will teach everyday citizens how to help someone who is struggling with a mental health concern or crisis. The program will be presented by the COAD Group and the Chester County Mental Health/Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities, Department of Human Services. Participants will learn about risk factors, warning signs, the impact of mental health concerns, and local resources for mental health and substance abuse treatment. A comprehensive manual explaining the Mental Health First Aid action plan for adults will be provided, and participants will receive certification, provided they attend both sessions.
