Shartlesville Lions Club had growing joys at its recent meeting at Blue Mountain Restaurant in Shartlesville. The club grew by two new members, husband and wife, David and Hilda Yeager. They were sponsored by Lions Carl and Shirley Burger and are the leaders of a local scouting Venture Crew.
Club president Bob Argot, a Lions Past District Governor, installed the two new members using candles to explain the hierarchy of the Lions, from the international organization down to the local club unit, all with the focus on service.
Lions International is celebrating its 100th year of service and its beginning with the focus on sight, thanks to Helen Keller’s request for the group to be “Knights of the Blind.” In its second century of service, Lions plans to encompass vision, hunger, the environment, pediatric cancer and diabetes. Old members and new will work to provide service in those areas and even more, working on the premise that where there is a need, there is a Lion.
