The weather wasn’t the only thing hot on July 20. As the sun beat on the black top cool cars and bikes began to roll into the The Bridge Church parking lot to attend the 3rd annual Cruise Night and BBQ hosted by The Bridge Church Men’s Ministries.

In an effort to provide an event that the whole family could enjoy, not only was there cool cars on display, but Smokey Bear BBQ was there and provided a tasty meal at an affordable price, too. The Cruise Night was free to attend and also free to enter a vehicle into.

Despite the scorching 92 degree heat there were more than 60 vehicles that were on display for the community to check out, and Smokey Bear BBQ fed more than 200 people!

A “Pit Crew Challenge” was one of the highlights of the night. This was an event that a team of two would race to remove two tires on a golf cart, as the announcer Jed Wood described, “From the front to the back, from the back to the front, zip zip zip and away you go!” It was an activity that encouraged team work and an experience that many of the contestants wouldn’t normally get to do. Teams of fathers and sons, grandfathers and grandkids and some teams of just good ole’ friends were among those on the list of competitors. The youngest contestant was 5 years old and the oldest contestant was, well, we’ll just say he was old.

We asked car exhibitor and Pit Crew Challenge competitor Nick Gerhinger what he thought of the evenings festivities.

“If I had to describe the event, I would say great food, a good variety of cool cars, and activities that the kids and adults both could really enjoy. A fun time for all.”

This year there was a giant inflatable water slide that the kids were able to play on throughout the evening, a perfect fit for the super hot evening.

As the music of yesteryear played in the background, the kids played, people ate, and the cars and bikes glistened as the sun set over the Bridge Church on Old Route 22 in Hamburg that night.
