Susan Sanger’s 4th grade class at Twin Valley Elementary Center celebrated White Cane Day on Oct. 16, in support of her student, Morgan Roy.

Byron Grosselfinger from the BCIU set up activities with her students, such as blindfolding them and having them use canes. Students wore White Cane Day shirts in conjunction with the celebration.

Activities led by Grosselfinger included an obstacle course with tables to walk between, a balance beam, a tunnel, and jumping on bean bags.

In the large group instruction room, Byron set up street corners, had an audio tape of traffic and the students had to decided when it was safe to cross the street.

The students walked outside and into the building using sidewalks and entrances they don’t normally use. They did this blindfolded.

Lunch was served outside the classroom and consisted of spaghetti with meatballs, salad with croutons and whole cherry tomatoes, Jello and fruit salad with whole grapes. Students also had to pour their own milk or water. They were blindfolded receiving and eating their lunches. At the end of lunch, there were many messy shirts, but Morgan’s was not messy at all.
