On Feb. 16, Twin Valley Middle School held the 13th annual Girls in Engineering program for the 8th grade girls who have shown interest in entering the field of Engineering. The program was conducted by the Twin Valley High School and Middle School Technology/Engineering Departments. The program was organized and presented by volunteer women engineers who came to Twin Valley Middle school to share their educational and work experiences with the hope of inspiring the young ladies to plan a future in the exciting field of Engineering.
Over sixty 8th grade girls participated in the three different hands-on-projects designed to simulate real world, hands-on challenges that might be found in the field of engineering today. The presenters discussed the wide range of fields found within Engineering including, Architectural Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, and bridge design. This year’s organizer was a Twin Valley Alumnus, Carrie Weinhold, EIT. Carrie is currently a Designer at NTM Engineering, Inc. Other presenters included, another Twin Valley alumnus, Chantel Duirez, from McKissick Associates Architects, Lisa Roberts, from Lockheed Martin and Denise Alstonguiden, PE, REM from GSK, Biopharmaceutical Division Rockville, MD.
