We are delighted to announce that in support of our mission to empower people in our communities to increase their capacity to care for animals so that all animals are healthy, safe, and treated humanely – we will be offering Independence for the Animals, a FREE Adoption Weekend at The Humane Society of Berks County, 1801 N. 11th St., Reading, from Friday, July 29 to Sunday, July 1.
As a result of a successful Sponsored Adoption Weekend segment during our Art for Arf’s Sake auction this past May, Kyle Blankenbiller, general manager of Auman Funeral Homes was a winner bidder and shared… “Due to our location in Reading, we like to align ourselves with nonprofit organizations in the city like The Humane Society of Berks County that are doing good work and serve a broad number of individuals. We especially like the fact that in addition to finding homes for animals that The Humane Society offers other services to the community to help keep animals in their homes, rather than having to turn them in to a shelter. And, we’re all animal lovers here. Between all of our employees, we have quite a number of cats and dogs that we consider a part of our families. We hope this free adoption weekend creates new families for animals that need a home.”
This FREE Adoption Weekend provides families with the ability to welcome a new furry friend into their home without needing to pay the standard adoption fee. Throughout the weekend, families can view, select, and meet-and-greet with any animals; dogs, cats, and critters they’d like, that are available for adoption.

* Spaying or Neutering (prior to adoption)
* Vaccinations (including current rabies vaccination) and de-worming medication
* Flea Treatment* Microchipping and chip registration
* Free 2 lb. bag of Science Diet Pet Food (dogs) or free 1 lb. bag of Science Diet Pet Food. Science Diet partners with Humane Pennsylvania to provide great nutrition to all cats in our shelters.
Adoption Hours are Friday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
