On July 13, Berks Book Bonanza opened its doors to a line of shoppers waiting to browse the selection of gently used books at the three-day fundraiser. By Sunday afternoon, Book Bonanza declared they were sold out of the nearly 50,000 books, DVD’s, and other materials collected in the three months prior to the sale.
The result: $45,000 was raised for local organizations.
The change from 12,000 square feet to 4,000 when the sale transitioned to the Berkshire Mall did affect the final total; however, considering the space limitations, the 2018 sale was still highly successful.
“We are very grateful to the Berkshire Mall for allowing us to collect and sell,” said Book Bonanza Chairperson, Vicki Steinberg. “Without their generosity, there wouldn’t have been a sale this year.”
The proceeds earned from the fundraiser will go to the two sponsoring groups, the Friends of Berks County Public Libraries and the American Association of University Women Reading Branch, which will help fund libraries and girls’ scholarships.
