The American Heart Association, the world’s leading voluntary health organization dedicated to building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, invites workplaces, friends and families from across Berks County to join the 2018 Berks County Heart Walk and 5K. The walk will take place on Sept. 29 at Gring’s Mill Recreation Area, 2083 Tulpehocken Rd., Reading.
This is the first year that the annual Heart Walk will kick-off with a 5K run. Festivities begin with run registration starting at 9 a.m. followed by walk registration at 9:30 a.m. The 5K run will kick off at 10 a.m. and the Heart Walk will step off at 11 a.m. Walkers in the Heart Walk can choose to walk a 1-mile or 3-mile route. Activities will also include healthy snacks, kids activities and live entertainment.
Registration for the 5K portion of the event is $25. There is no registration fee for the Heart Walk, although fundraising is encouraged. Organizers have set a goal to raise $100,000 from the Heart Walk to support the American Heart Association. Walkers who raise a minimum of $100 will receive a Heart Walk t-shirt and the opportunity to earn additional prizes.
The Heart Walk is chaired by Amy Teal, chief executive officer of HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital, and sponsored locally by HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital and Stevens & Lee.
