Submitted Kutztown FFA member Kayla Fusselman received an award at a leadership conference at Delaware Valley College.

Four Kutztown FFA students traveled to Delaware Valley College for a leadership conference and competition trainingMarch 2.

The students competed at CDE’s in topics that included horse judging and floriculture. CDE’s are Career Development Events that help FFA students develop skills allowing for them to think critically, communicate clearly in society, and also perform successfully in a job market that is competitive. Also, at the conference the students took part in leadership activities preparing them for life situations in which having leadership skills would be vital to possess.

Three of the four students, Sarah Politi, Jamie Siefert, and Kristy Heffner, competed in horse judging. One of the students, Kayla Fusselman competed for a CDE in floriculture.

Overall, at the competition, Fusselman placed third. Amongst Fusselman’s many officer positions, she is the president of the horticulture club at Kutztown High School and enjoys working with plants. Fusselman completed a test that required her to identify plants and tested her knowledge on plant science and biology. Fusselman received a medal in honor of her achievement.

Fusselman as well as other FFA members will be going to state competition in June in hopes of qualifying for national competition in October for floriculture.
