The Kutztown Area High School’s Leo Club held its annual book sale on the last weekend in February.
The Leo Club, the youth auxiliary of the Kutztown Lions Club, has worked in the community for decades, providing assistance to charitable works and raising money and awareness to myriad charities including the Wounded Warriors, the ACS, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the American Heart Association, the March of Dimes, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Berks County Association for the Blind and others. Since 2005, the club has solicited donated materials from the greater Kutztown area in order to raise needed funds for various charities including a school damaged during Hurricane Katrina, the ASPCA and, most often, the American Cancer Society.
Students in the Leo Club began organizing the day before the sale in the high school cafeteria to organize the event. Josh Chambers, advisor of the Club, had the doors open at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Chambers and other Club members did not leave until an hour after doors closed to the public at 3 p.m. Overall, the sale raised around $750 in proceeds, which will be donated to American Cancer Society and the Relay For Life which will be held on May 31 to June 1 at Kutztown University.
The club is always seeking donations for various charities, be it monetary or other. For more information, contact advisor Chambers at Kutztown Area High School (610-683-7346 or email@example.com).
