She will be replacing Dana Eichert, who has announced her plans to retire, which took effect on April 1. Lori Bernhard will be taking the position of Center Director.

The center first opened in 1975, Youse joined the Center’s staff just a few years later.

The center was initially created in order to provide a hot meal for elderly community members, evolving over the years to become a place where seniors could gather together.

Throughout the years, various activities and tournaments were introduced such as the beanbag toss tournament, Texas Hold ‘Em, and shuffleboard as well as pool and quilting.

“Over the last 38 years, The Center has seeked to enrich the lives of people 55 and over,” said Youse.

The Center orginally began at St. John’s Lutheran Church before moving into the gym of the Boyertown Area YMCA, then to the wing of the YMCA.

In 2006, The Center opened it’s own facility at its current location at 200 West Spring Streetas part of the Boyertown Area Multi-Service Center.

“The center is a very warm place to come,” said Cathy Webb, Vice President of The Center. “The community supports the center.” Webb continued to state that she is happy for both Youse and Eichert as they move on to new phases in their lives.

Anyone is invited to visit the Center, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Multi-Service itself will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in May.
