Birdsboro-Union Fire Dept. busy with 2 Sunday fires

BIRDSBORO — A pair of fires had the Birdsboro-Union Fire Department busy early Sunday afternoon.

The first fire occurred near the Schuylkill River on the 500 block of Armorcast Road.

According to Deputy Chief Scott Kulp, a “small fire” was discovered around 2 p.m. outside “on the shore of the river.”

It was quickly extinguished and the borough’s fire marshal, Ken Templin, was investigating the cause of the fire.

Later, around 2:30 p.m., another fire was reported on the 1400 block of East Main Street in a field behind the Union Township building.

“It was a small field fire, extinguished pretty quickly,” Kulp said. “A gentleman was burning debris and it got out of control.”

The fire affected a 300 square foot area.
