Candidate Q&A: Margret Devlin for Kutztown Borough Council

Margret Devlin

Township of residence: Borough of Kutztown

Position running for? Borough Council, representing Ward 1

Experience? I have no political experience but was the Dean of Library Services at Kutztown University for 14 years. I managed a large collection, a variety of services, a budget of over $2,500,000 and a full-time staff of 25. In this position, I held a leadership position on several university-wide committees including being chair of the Universitys Strategic Planning Committee. In addition, I was president of three regional professional library organizations and served on the board of the Pennsylvania Library Association (a statewide org).

Reason for running? Having lived in Kutztown for over 20 years utilizing and enjoying its services, I now have time to contribute to this wonderful community. I am hopeful that my skills will be useful to the Borough Council with its numerous and complicated issues to maintain Kutztown as a strong vital borough..

What will be on your agenda if elected? From walking around and talking to neighbors, the main issue that affects everyone is the cost of electricity. We need to find better ways to manage this expensive utility and other high cost areas.

Neighbors raised other concerns that have both supporters and detractors -- hometownutilicom, the race track, and surprisingly chickens. If elected, I will work with Borough Council to find the best solutions to these issues.

Being new to the workings of the Borough, I have a great deal to learn and promise to work hard for the residents.
