Twin Valley Lax closes season with victory

The Twin Valley High School Boys Lacrosse team closed their inaugural varsity season (after three seasons as a club team) with a 12-2 victory over Daniel Boone. The Raiders ended in dominating fashion, outscoring the Blazers 8-1 in the first half. Senior Attack Andrew Huls opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, using his patented power move from the right side of the crease. Freshman midfielder Matt Krick quickly doubled the score before Huls scored again. These were followed by a quick succession of goals - first from Senior midfielder Ryan Hoffman, generated from a steal of a clearing pass, a second goal from Krick, assisted by freshman attack Alex Rhoades, an end to end rush goal tallied by senior midfielder Robert Gaydos which made the score 6-0. Then senior attackman Kyle Arthurs scored a team leading 30th goal on his signature skyhook, with an assist to senior midfelder Justin Folk, on a play that was the result of a fastbreak featuring outstanding ball movement started by senior defenseman Lee Thompson. The Blazers finally broke through with a man-up goal, but the Raiders closed out the first half on Hoffmans second goal, assisted by Arthur, to make the score 8-1.

The second half began with more of the same as Gaydos won the face-off, raced downfield, and scored his second goal. Hoffman then made another steal and scored his third goal, followed by another strike by Krick who joined the hat trick club with his third. Boone tallied for the second time before senior goalie Tim McCall, who was rarely tested, made a fine outlet pass to Hoffman who tallied his fourth goal to close out the scoring at 12-2.

The outgoing seniors, who helped start this program four years ago as freshman, set the tone for the team in their first year in the Berks County Interscholastic Athletic Association as a school sponsored sport. Attackman Andrew Huls lead the team in scoring with 45 points (24 goals, 21 assists (a Twin Valley record), while Kyle Arthur led the team in goals with 30. Ryan Hoffman finished second in points with 38 (22 goals, 16 assists). Tim MCall had a fine season in goal, Lee Thompson was the leader of the defense, Justin Folk and Robert Gaydos were also prolific scorers, contributing 17 and 25 points respectively, and Will Yoquinto played sound defense all season. These senior leaders have created a sound foundation for years to come for Twin Valley Lacrosse.
