<![CDATA[Historian discusses impact of Gettysburg Address during Hamburg Library lecture]]> Michael Jesberger greeted attendees to his lecture, Abraham Lincoln and the Gettysburg Address, wearing the woolen blue uniform of a Civil War "Billy Yank."

The lecture was in Hamburg's Borough Hall on Nov. 17, just two days before the 152nd anniversary of the historic address on Nov. 19, 1863, and was sponsored by the Hamburg Public Library.

<![CDATA[Hamburg School Board President Brooke Adams strikes gavel final time after 28 years on board]]> After 28 years as a Hamburg Area school director with the past several as its president, Brooke Adams struck the gavel for the final time on Nov. 23.

"After 28 years it's time to move on," Adams said after the meeting. "I have no children in the district."

As for why he became a board member, Adams said that when he was growing up "education was always big in my family.

<![CDATA[Twin Valley stuns Villa Maria Academy 3-1 to win PIAA Class AA title]]> How long ago was 1977?

It was so long ago, that the 77-year-old bus driver who escorted Twin Valley's field hockey team to the Nov. 21 PIAA Class AA championship match against Ville Maria Academy at Whitehall High School was a 39-year-old head coach then.

Why is this relevant? Because that bus driver, Marty Hassler, was the head coach of Twin Valley's 1977 state champion softball team, the only other team sport state champion in school history -- until Nov.

<![CDATA[Kutztown alum graduates from Marines]]> PVT. Nathan Lee Bowman, 19, graduated Nov. 13 from the Marines, at Parris Island, SC. Bowman is a Combat Engineer and Expert Rifleman with 1st RT BN PLT 1089 Delta Company.

Bowman graduated from Kutztown High School. He was on the wrestling team from 8th through 12th grade and on the rifle team 9th through 12th grade.

Trinity will be putting on "One Starry Night" this year on Friday, Dec. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 5 from 12 to 2 p.m. This is a large scale interactive live nativity that allows people to experience the culture and emotions that surrounded the birth of Jesus.

Lights can be seen beginning Nov. 27 after 6 p.m. and the show runs most nights until Jan. 1.

The Simpson residence is located at 218 N. Sandy Lane in Sinking Spring. Mr. Simpson hangs more than 57,000 lights on his home and property and personally programs the lights to run in sync with a rotation of holiday music.
