They were married on March 27, 1965 at Frieden's Lutheran Church, New Ringgold. The ceremony was performed by the late Rev. Charles Orem.

To celebrate the anniversary, a surprise party was by their children at the Virginville Fire Company.

Governor Wolf highlighted the importance of a strong public education system to our future. The funding of public education was a focus of the speech. He seeks to restore the cuts in education funding that have occurred in recent years.

<![CDATA[Annual banquet celebrates beauty and bounty of outdoors at Salem EC Church]]> The third Annaul Sportsmen's Banquet at Salem EC Church, Lenhartsville, included something for everyone. Organizers of the banquet were pleased with the event, with approximately 125 in attendance. The afternoon and evening included interactive vendors, tasty food and an entertaining speaker.

"I organize the banquet every year as an outreach opportunity to fellow outdoorsmen (and women & children!)," Cori Dixon, chair of the event, said.

<![CDATA[Kutztown Jazz Festival: Kutztown Middle School hosted five guest bands]]> Kutztown Middle School hosted its instrumental Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. There were five guest bands. Both the Elementary and Middle School Kutztown Jazz Bands performed. All proceeds benefit KASMA, the Kutztown Area Schools Music Association.

<![CDATA[10th Annual Art Students' Exhibition and Competition to be held at MCCC, Pottstown]]> Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) will be highlighting the talent of its art students at its Tenth Annual Art Students' Exhibition and Competition, which opens Wednesday, April 1, and continues through Friday, April 24, at the Fine Arts Gallery, North Hall, 16 High Street, Pottstown.

Approximately 50 students will be displaying their artwork in a variety of media, including drawings, paintings, three-dimensional pieces and mixed media.

<![CDATA[Shed fire on Wednesday spread to adjacent Birdsboro homes]]> Firefighters responded to a fully-involved fire in a large shed at 119 Furnace St. in Birdsboro Wednesday afternoon, March 25.

The fire spread to two adjoining structures, a house and an office in the front of the building before it was extinguished, according to Birdsboro Fire Marshall Ken Templin.

<![CDATA[Daughter of Daniel Boone grad to be featured on PBS special about cancer]]> The daughter of a 1999 Daniel Boone graduate will be featured on a PBS special airing next week.

"Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies," a Ken Burns production, will be aired on Monday, March 30, Tuesday, March 31, and Wednesday, April 1 beginning at 9 p.m.

The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by Siddhartha Mukherjee.

With only four official days behind him, new High School Principal Preston N. McKnight said the high school can go from being very good to great by offering choice and new opportunities to help all students achieve their long-term career goals.

<![CDATA[Garden Spot Village Drug Take-Back Service: Public may dispose of unwanted medications on campus April 18]]> Although the national Prescription Drug Take-Back initiative has ended, Garden Spot Village and the New Holland Police Department are teaming up to build on the successful program's momentum by offering their own drug take-back event on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

"Although the Drug Enforcement Administration is no longer coordinating special collection days, we wish to continue to offer the same disposal opportunity that the DEA had organized in the past," said Colleen Musselman, director of life enrichment at Garden Spot Village.
