The Oley Fire Company enjoyed a pair of beautiful autumn days for their 8th Annual Antique Power and Apple Festival Car Show on the weekend of Oct. 10 and 11.

The great weather made for a very good turnout of participants and spectators alike and the proverbial good time was had by all.

<![CDATA[Two-car accident on Kutztown Road]]> At approximately 8:01 p.m. on Oct. 5, an accident involving two vehicles occurred on Kutztown Road, 150 feet south of Moselem Springs Road, in Richmond Township.

Both drivers, Elizabeth Borrero, 47, of Reading and Kenneth Gerhart, 66, of Allentown were traveling south of Kutztown Road. Gerhart stopped in the southbound lane for a tractor trailer turning right into the Speedway store.

<![CDATA[State Police: One-car crash in Union Township]]> On Oct. 4, State Police at Reading responded to a one-vehicle crash on Black Matte Road in Union Township.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m. as the driver, F. Scott Winslow, 44, of Glenmoore was traveling south. The driver stated that three deer ran out in front of his vehicle, and he used evasive maneuvers while trying not to hit the deer.

<![CDATA[Kempton couple travels to Austria for world championship triathlon]]> Jeff and Raine Fussner recently traveled to Austria for the 1/2 Ironman world championships. After Jeff qualified for the world championships at the Princeton 1/2 Ironman in 2014, the couple planned their trip for August 2015. After a year of training, with many road miles, swims at the quarry, hours on the spin bike and several hundred gels and protein bars consumed, the two were ready for their races in Austria.

The girls learned about how the police officers protect them and keep them safe.

They learned about the process that the officers follow when they protect the public by bringing in the bad guys.

<![CDATA[Fleetwood Area School District receives $10,000 grant for laptop computers]]> Fleetwood Area School District has received a $10,000 grant from America's Farmers Grow Rural Education, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund. The district will use the money to purchase computers, which will be installed in small group learning stations for each of the 10th grade biology classrooms. Students will use the computers to deepen their understanding of the biology concepts included in the Pennsylvania Core Biology Standards.
