"While acknowledging that reasonable restrictions and prohibitions are appropriate in some cases, we must do all we can to remove needless barriers that prevent non-violent ex-offenders from accessing the job market," said Sen.

<![CDATA[College campuses closer to being safer as Schwank's bill advances]]> A legislative proposal by Sen. Judy Schwank dealing with sexual assault on college campuses in Pennsylvania took a positive step forward on April 14.

Schwank's "PA Safe Campuses Act" received unanimous approval from the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"Events like the recent one involving Kappa Delta Rho fraternity at Penn State and similar reports from across the county prove again and again how necessary it is for schools to be more proactive in addressing sexual crimes," Sen.

<![CDATA[Exeter's Reiffton School to hold 12th all-school show]]> Reiffton School will hold its 12th all-school show on Thursday, May 7, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Nearly 1300 works of art, created by Reiffton's fifth and sixth-grade students, will be on display. The lobby will feature a paper sculpture tropical paradise. Elliana Godinez, a Reiffton sixth-grade student and balloon artist will be featured with her tropical balloon creations.

<![CDATA[Caernarvon Township volunteers clean up Morgantown at first Community Clean Up April 25]]> The Caernarvon Township Parks and Recreation board hosted its first Morgantown Community Clean Up on Saturday. April 25.

Clad in matching orange vests, 22 people helped pick up trash. The attendees included local residents of all ages, state representatives and community leaders. This clean-up was focused in the center of Caernarvon Township and encompassed Route 23, North Street, South Street, and intersecting streets.

<![CDATA[Leidy-Rhoads Fund gives scholarships, assists students in Boyertown]]> A 74-year-old scholarship program in Boyertown is going strong and paying out to students who live in the borough.

The Leidy-Rhoads Fund, established in 1941, has duel purposes. Part of the fund goes to supplying school children with items they might not be able to afford.

"The intent of the fund is to provide assistance to students to enable them to remain in school," said Arlene McCaffrey, who helps run the fund.

The HASD Board of Directors mad the appointment official at the board meeting on Monday, April 27. Dr. Mextorf succeeds Mr. Steven Keifer, who is officially retiring from HASD.
