<![CDATA[Flamin' Dick and the Hot Rods take to the Reading Fair stage]]> Flamin' Dick and the Hot Rods will take the stage at the Reading Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 7 and 9 p.m. The band, who started playing the Reading Fair in 2009, describe themselves as a '50s and '60s Rock-n-Roll Party Band. They play a variety of music spanning 1955 to 1968 - "The golden years of Rock-n-Roll," as they put it.

<![CDATA[Caregivers find support]]> The Kutztown Community Library hosts a caregiver support group sponsored by the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Their meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of every month.

In the meetings, they aim to encourage educational and social support, help develop the methods and skills of the caregivers and help the caregivers maintain their own physical and emotional wellness.

This will be the first year the Queen Contest will be held at the Fair's new location at the Reading Fairground, 1216 Hilltop Rd., Leesport.

And, incredible as that may sound, its magical narration cast an everlasting spell on the princes and princesses who relished the fable at the Morgantown Village Library July 30 during the library's Fizz, Boom, Read summer reading program.

<![CDATA[Seniors Give Children Gift of Reading through book credit exchange program]]> For the second consecutive year, the Lauer's Park Elementary School in Reading, Pa., has used a bookstore credit given them by The Heritage of Green Hills, an active, 55+ independent living community in Shillington, Pa., to purchase dozens of books for the school library.

In June, Lauer's Park Elementary School librarian, Dawn Conrad, and reading specialist, Heather Glendening, visited the Firefly Book Store in Kutztown, Pa.

<![CDATA[20 years later: The tornado that tore through Limerick]]>

LIMERICK - Twenty years have passed since a devastating tornado swept through Limerick, killing three people and injuring 25.

The tornado touched down on July 27, 1994, missing the Limerick nuclear power plant but striking a housing development in the township known as The Hamlet.

Houses that weren't leveled had windows shattered, roofs broken, even entire walls missing.

<![CDATA[Albright College welcomes alumna as AmeriCorps volunteer]]> Albright College alumna Jasmine Clarke has returned to her alma mater to serve as an AmeriCorps volunteer to help expand the College's educational partnership with neighboring 13th and Union Elementary School and to engage in community outreach through the Albright Early Learning Center.

Clarke, a graduate of the Class of 2014, began her year-long service as a Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA) on July 25.

The conference was held at the institute's research center at Janelia Farm, Va.

Hiryak, the daughter of Kathleen and James Hiryak, presented the results of research conducted in a "Phage Hunting" class taught by Christian Laing, assistant professor of mathematics, computer science and biology.
