After the votes from audience members and judges were tallied, Kyle Schuerger was named Mr. Boone on Jan. 24.

Schuerger competed against 13 other male students from Daniel Boone High School.

Schuerger sang Cee-Lo Green’s ‘Forget You’ during one of the talent segments of the pageant. Not only did he walk away with the title of Mr. Boone, but also a $200 prize.

Schuerger has been involved in musicals, plays Drama Club and Daniel Boone Youth Educational Association during his time at the high school.

What he has enjoyed most about Mr. Boone is ‘really getting to know the other guys and having a great time with them throughout the whole experience,’ according to the Mr. Boone program that was distributed before the show.

Ricky Carey was the second runner up and Seth Wiley was the first runner up.

The other contestants were Brandon Benjamin, Jason Swanson, Joe King, Aaron Ballmer, Scott Martin, Adam Diaz, Ryan Stone, John Davis, Colin Martucci, Kyle Mondoc and Andrew Tucci.

About 990 people attended the event, said co-producer Alison Fulmer.

‘These contestants have been chosen based on number one Mr. Boone qualities: personality, likeability, overall good nature and manly potential,’ said Elise Lerario, co-host of the Mr. Boone pageant.

Co-host Melissa Rowan added, ‘Twenty one guys were narrowed down to 14 through a voting process where the student body placed money in their jars.’

This year’s Mr. Boone featured video biographies with the contestants talking about what it would be like to go on a date with them and a taped comical scene from a pretend date. In addition, the guys hammed it up on stage while dancing, showing off swimwear and formalwear and answering questions like ‘Who has been the biggest influence on your life?’ and ‘What have you enjoyed most about Mr. Boone?’

In addition to talents, swimwear and formalwear, the contestants were judged on preparation, spirit, talent, character and their video bios, Lerario said.

Mr. Boone, started in 2008, is a fundraiser for the senior class.

The judges were Mr. Yeakel, Ms. Shriner, Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Ulrich and student representative Lauren Demberger.

Missy Shutt, director of The Next Step Dance Studio and her student helpers Erica Hamel and Alex Iannelli worked on the choreography for the show.
