2012 NFL Franchised Player Report

The NFL’s Deadline for signing franchised players to long term deals passed at 4PM ET on July 16th, so now it is time to do an inventory. One of the players who got a deal done was Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice as the multi-threat back got a 5-yr, $40 Million contact with $25 Million in guarantees
As expected, July 16th did bring some wheeling-and-dealing in the NFL as the deadline to sign franchised players to long-term deals passed.
CBA Rules stipulate, if a franchised player was unable to workout a long-term deal by 4:00 PM ET of the deadline date, then the player can only agree to play under the terms of their 1-year franchise deal for the upcoming NFL season (ex. New England Patriots WR Wes Welker’s 1-year franchise deal for the 2012 season is for approximately $9.521 Million).
