READING, Pa. – Reading United’s Deshorn Brown, Greg Cochrane and Stephen Okai all received postseason honors last week from the USL PDL. The honors come after Reading’s heartbreaking playoff loss in penalty kicks to the eventual Eastern Conference champion, and league runner-up Carolina Dynamo. The trip to the playoffs was Reading’s fifth straight visit to the postseason.
Deshorn Brown was named as an MVP finalist, as well as finding a place on both the USL PDL All-League squad and PDL All-Eastern Conference team. Brown had a standout year, ending tied for the league lead in goals, with 13 goals in 13 games. His 28 points finished second in the league, and his 49 shots finished fifth in the PDL.
Okai’s nomination to the All-Eastern Conference team was his second consecutive nod to the honorary squad, where he joined Reading United teammates Brian Holt and Matt Baker in 2011. Okai scored two goals with four assists in 2012, anchoring Reading’s midfield efforts prior to his senior year at the University of Mobile.
Louisville’s Greg Cochrane was also named to the All-Eastern Conference team, after showcasing his potential at right back during the 2012 campaign. Cochrane netted one goal and added an assist in 11 games with Reading.
