The Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church (PC USA) is celebrating a long history of 250 years in faith throughout the month of October.
The first Pastor, the Rev. Dr. Robert Smith, was a native of Londonderry in Ireland. Dr. Smith was ordained and installed in 1751 as pastor of the Pequea Church. In 1762 he established the congregation met in the open air amid the cedars, from which the name of the church was derived.
Dr. Smith continued to be the pastor of the Pequea and Cedar Grove Presbyterian Churches until his death in 1793. The Cedar Grove’s journey of faith continued for 250 years with 24 pastors.
Pastor Kris (The Rev. Dr. Krisana Poontajak) a native of Chiang Mai, Thailand, currently serves as the 25th pastor and is the first woman pastor in the church history.
The public is invited to attend Sunday morning worships at 10:00 AM on, and 1:00-4:00 PM afternoon presentations every Sunday in October to enjoy musical, historical, and today’s Holy Ground Café programs.
The theme of the celebrations is based on Psalm 78: 1-7 “Setting Our Hope in God.”
On Sunday, October 7, the World Communion will be held during morning worship using breads from different countries around the globe and the scripture readings in more than six languages.
On Sunday, October 14, there will be a special service will held followed with a luncheon and history presentations at 1:00 PM, and a Praise Band performance “Finding Faith” at 2:00 PM.
The Sunday, October 21 afternoon program is “Songs and Stories of Civil War” by Matthew Dodd at 2:00 PM.
On Sunday, October 28 there will be a Reformation Sunday morning service and an afternoon program performed by the Roland Family with gospel music.
