Local students awarded for academic achievements

Tori Dietrich is the September Student of the Month at Hamburg Area High School. She is the daughter of Dennis and Adele Dietrich of Strausstown.

Berks County Community Foundation recently distributed scholarships valued at $500 or more to the following students from Hamburg Area High School:
The Hamburg Area/Schuylkill Valley Association of School Retirees Scholarship Fund ($500) went to Riley Nabozny.
The Taylor N. Seitzinger Hamburg Area High School Scholarship Fund ($2,200) went to Heidi Stertzel.
The Shane C. Stewart Scholarship Fund ($1,000) went to Trevor Bauer.

Kelly Gilmer, of Leesport, has been named to the summer 2012 Deanís List at University of the Sciences. Selection for this award is based on completing and passing all assigned courses with no grade below a ďCĒ and attaining an academic average of at least 3.4 for courses taken in the summer semester of 2012. Gilmer is a doctor of pharmacy student.

Jareth Monroe, of Hamburg, has been accepted to Ashland University for the fall semester of 2012. Monroe, who attended Hamburg Area High School, will receive the Provostís Scholarship of $13,000 annually to attend Ashland University.

Tabitha Bailey, of Hamburg, graduated from Elizabethtown College in August with a Master of Science degree in occupational therapy.

Alex Deck, of Leesport, majoring in criminal justice.
Jared Degler, of Hamburg, majoring in athletic training.
Harlee Ehrets, of Bernville, majoring in biochemistry.
Bryana Elliott, of Shoemakersville, majoring in biochemistry.
Robert Kohler, of Leesport, majoring in management.
Andrew Kurtz, of Shoemakersville, majoring in forensic science.
Anthony Maccarone, of Leesport, majoring in criminal justice.
Riley Nabozny, of Hamburg, majoring in special education.
Daniel Pettinato, of Bernville, undecided.
Alissa Welgo, of Mohrsville, majoring in psychology.

More than 450 undergraduate and graduate students received bachelorís, masterís and doctoral degrees at Wilkes Universityís summer commencement on Sept. 9.
Michael Kegerise, of Mohrsville, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in earth and environmental sciences.
Jeanne Blum, of Leesport, earned a Master of Science degree in education.

Bryana Elliott, of Shoemakersville, has been granted the Trusteesí Scholarship. Elliott plans to study biochemistry.
Andrew Kurtz, of Shoemakersville, has been granted the Veronica Founderís Scholarship. Kurtz plans to study forensic science.
Anthony Maccarone, of Leesport, has been granted the Veronica Founderís Scholarship. Maccarone plans to study criminal justice.
Daniel Pettinato, of Bernville, has been granted the Trusteesí Scholarship. Pettinato is undecided.
