Superintendent Steven Keifer reviewed a recent incident of ceiling tiles falling in Perry Elementary with school directors at the Hamburg Area school directors meeting on Oct. 22.
Plaster fell from the ceiling onto a drop ceiling, causing a 7′ x 10′ corner area of the drop ceiling to fall in a fourth grade classroom, which is located in the old section of the school, according to Keifer.
‘Students were in the classroom at the time and fortunately no one was hurt,’ Keifer said. ‘Classes were moved to the library.
‘Berks Fire & Water, the architect and our facilities personnel were on the scene quickly and the problem was corrected by 9 p.m. The whole building was checked. Four or five pieces of cracked plaster (at other areas) were found and patched.’
Perry Elementary will be demolished following the current school year to make way for a new elementary school.
