Senator Dinniman presents $14,000 check to Chester County Food Bank

WEST CHESTER – State Senator Andy Dinniman recently joined volunteers from the Brandywine Valley Water Garden Tour in presenting a check for $14,000 to the Chester County Food Bank.

“The 2012 Brandywine Valley Water Garden Tour was a major success,” Dinniman said. “I want to thank all of the volunteers and residents who opened up their homes to share with us their picturesque ponds, winding streams and lush gardens.”

The funds were raised through ticket sales to the annual pond tour and barbeque dinner, as well as proceeds from the silent auction. Now in its ninth year, the Brandywine Valley Water Garden Tour offers an opportunity to visit the homes of local residents and neighbors who have created beautiful waterscapes in their backyards. The tour benefits the Chester County Food Bank and Gleaning Program, which supports local food banks and provides fresh, healthy foodstuffs to those in need.

The event has grown significantly over the years to include as many as 50 ponds and gardens. In addition, tickets sales saw a 20 percent increase this year with almost 500 guests in attendance, according to officials.

Dinniman, who helped establish the Chester County Food Bank and Gleaning Program more than 15 years ago, said he was impressed by the amount of supporters who have gotten involved in the highly successful community partnership.

“The people of Chester County continue to step forward to answer the call of their neighbors in need and find new ways to address the problem of hunger,” Dinniman said. “The pond tour is only the latest example of this, and it’s really caught on as an annual summer event in the region. I also want to thank Chad and Jason Turpin and the staff of Turpin Landscaping for all of their hard work on behalf of the Gleaning Program and Food Bank.”

Next year’s Brandywine Valley Water Garden Tour is set for July 27 and 28, 2013. Those interested in volunteering or supporting the event should contact Turpin Landscaping, Inc. at (610) 380-1119.
