Kutztown Area Historical Society Model Railroad Open House

Sundays, from 1 to 4 p.m., Jan. 20, 27. Normal Avenue and Whiteoak Street, Kutztown. The highly detailed, 500 square foot HO scale model railroad will be open: city, amusement park, rural countryside, bridges, mountains, lakes, and streams. Audition for A Midsummer Night’s Dream

6 to 7:30 p.m. at Indie Space, 19 East Main St., Kutztown. Open auditions for Kutztown Arts and Theatre for Children (KATCH) Shakespeare in the Park. Event is May 3 to 5: comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream along with a KATCH original play A Lost Girl in Neverland. A youth production, actors range in age from 6 to 18. Jan. 26 Author Ginny Fralick Rumsey Book Signing Event

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Max Crema’s Espresso & Coffee Bar, 3130 Pricetown Road, Fleetwood. Rumsey, of Wyomissing, will sign copies of her book, The Day My Life Changed Forever. Her husband, Duncan, was killed in a motorcycle. She takes the reader through the first year of her life without her husband and chronicles what she endures emotionally, physically and spiritually every day. Rumsey’s story will comfort and advise.

7 p.m., at Alvernia University, Bernardine Hall Lecture Hall, on campus. 4 p.m., at the RC Reading Movies 11 and Imax Theatre, 30 N. Second St., Reading. Berks Coalition Against Human Trafficking, Berks Women in Crisis and Freedom and Restoration for Everyone Enslaved free screening of documentary film about domestic minor sex trafficking and the modern-day abolitionist movement fighting to stop it. Toss Your Hat in the Ring, a program for those considering running for local public office. 7-9 p.m., at the Berks County Ag Center, 1238 County Welfare Road, Leesport. Debbie Olivieri of the Election Services office, Berks, presents information needed to run for public office. Liesel Dreisbach of Penn State Extension, program sponsor, gives overview of local government. She will include opportunities to volunteer in local government for those not wishing to run for public office. Feb. 9 Chinese New Year Celebration

10:30 a.m. at Kutztown Community Library for families with children ages 3 and up. Come learn about the Chinese New Year and celebrate the Year of the Snake with stories, crafts, and games.

11th Annual Juried Spring Craft Festival. Reading-Berks Chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen host 11th Annual Juried Spring Fine Arts and Craft Festival in Keystone Hall, Kutztown University, on April 6 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and April 7 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Presented in partnership with the Pa German Scholarship Studies, the Pa German Cultural Heritage Center in Kutztown and KU, whose art students also will exhibit their work. Guild member arts and crafts include wood turning, shaker boxes, braided and penny rugs, schnerenschnitte paper cuttings, folk art, theorem painting, country furniture, calligraphy, basketry, tinsmithing, redware, block printing, quilting, wheat weaving, painted beeswax, hand-hammered aluminum, felted wool and metal yard art, ceramics, glass, jewelry, dried florals, wearable art, photography and fine artwork.
