Berks County Grange takes action

The Berks County Grange held its December quarterly meeting in the Gouglersville Grange hall and several actions were taken by the membership.

The Grange will supporting the purchase of additional name plates for the Farm Family plaques located in the Berks County Agricultural Center honoring all Reading Fair Farm Families since its inception in 1956. There have been 57 Farm Families honored to date, and some of these have been second and third generation recipients in their particular family.

The Grange is also supporting the Barry Good family whose barn and herd of cattle were destroyed in a fire. The support provided to the Good family was a check for $500.

It was noted at the meeting that the Granges throughout the county provided support to the Wernersville State Hospital’s annual Christmas sharing project with the residents. A total of $1,350 in donations to purchase items for these residents was reported.

RELATED ASSETS

The 12 Granges in the county supported the annual Salvation Army Christmas Angel Tree project by purchasing gifts for 100 individuals. Mindy McCormich,of the Salvation Army, thanked the Granges for their support. She indicated the county Grange is the first group that contacts the organization to support the Angel Tree project.
