In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy, the Berks County Sheriff’s Department has received numerous inquiries regarding its position on the release and/or publication of named individuals who have applied for a license to carry firearms.

Sheriff Eric Weaknecht states that he will not release any information contained on an application for license to carry firearms and that all information an applicant provides is confidential and not subject to public disclosure per Pennsylvania statute at 18 Pa. C.S. §6111(i).
