On December 31, 2012 at 5:36 p.m., Cpl. John Scalia and Officer Kyle Tranovich of the Caernarvon Township Police Department responded to an incident at 16 Horseshoe Drive in the Pennwood Development, Caernarvon Township, where a domestic dispute was taking place between 28 year-old Brandon Gramlich and his parents. The officers were advised that the parents were locked in their bedroom and that their son was attempting to kick the door down and was armed with a knife.
Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Tranovich found that Brandon Gramlich had knocked the door down and was yelling at the parents, stating that he was going to kill them. Officer Tranovich then observed Brandon Gramlich, who was armed with a samurai sword. Officer Tranovich gave Gramlich commands to drop the sword, which Gramlich did. Gramlich was then taken into police custody.
The Officers discovered that Gramlich had become violent after his parents informed him that they would not allow him to use their car. Gramlich responded by damaging a bedroom door and first floor living room, and also assaulting his father and knocking him to the ground several times.
Gramlich was transported to Berks County Central Processing Center and charged with Aggravated and Simple Assault, Terroristic Threats, Reckless Endangering Another Person, Harassment and Disorderly Conduct. He was arraigned at Central Arraignment Court and has been committed to Berks County Prison pending a court appearance.
