New York City only has its ball – but Boyertown has its ‘Bear.’

At the annual New Year Bear Drop (‘Nei Yohr Bar Rutsch’) on Dec. 31, 2012, the Boyertown Area Historical Society rang in the new year with a party and celebration.

Festivities began at 4:00 p.m. in the Boyertown Area Historical Society Museum. Mayor Marianne Deery attended this event alongside members of the Society and community members.

‘It was really neat,’ said Mayor Deery at the recent Boyertown Borough Council meeting.

The celebration included light refreshments and various activities to honor Boyertown’s Pennsylvania German heritage. The evening concluded with the dropping of the Bear at 6 p.m. on New Years Eve; coinciding with midnight in Germany.
