This year, the Honey Brook Community Library is proudly celebrating its 50th anniversary. As the library continues to work toward providing the community with its invaluable resources, it kindly requests the support of the community through special events and fundraising. One of the events the HBCL will be having throughout 2013 is Dining for Dollars.
According to library Director Paula McGinness, Dining for Dollars is a new way for community members to support the Honey Brook Community Library while also enjoying good food and good times at local restaurants.
The recipe for Dining for Dollars is a simple read: a restaurant agrees to support the library with a portion of their sales on a set date, patrons enjoy food and drink at that restaurant on the chosen date, the restaurant delights in new and old patronage, and the HBLC receives a portion of the money raised on that date to continue to support the community.
The featured restaurant in February is Wimpy & Dee’s Classic Diner in Honey Brook (located at 5051 Horseshoe Pike/Route 10 just west of Honey Brook), which features 1950s – 60s era American cuisine and decor. McGinness contacted Lyn Kemper, the owner of Wimpy and Dee’s, nearly a year ago to discuss Dining for Dollars. Kemper quickly agreed to go forward with the partnership and now those customers who visit Wimpy & Dee’s Classic Diner on Sunday, February 3 (between 6:30 a.m. and 9 p.m.), will not only enjoy a meal but also benefit the Honey Brook Community Library just by paying their bill.
Keri Shannon serves as a member of the HBCL Board of Trustees and as a member of its Development and Strategic Planning Committee. Shannon, a mother of two, joined the board approximately one year ago to help support the facility that she has been bringing her children to for four-and-a-half years.
‘After hearing about other organizations partnering with restaurants in order to raise money, the HBCL Board of Trustees came up with our version of the fundraiser,’ Shannon explained. ‘Our first goal is to get four to six restaurants involved in this year’s fundraising. If this works out well we would continue Dining for Dollars beyond 2013.’
She added that those interested in supporting the HBCL should contact the library for additional details.
‘Any restaurant can contact us – not just those in Honey Brook,’ explained Shannon, ‘and (Dining for Dollars) is not the only fundraising partnering that we are doing. We are always looking for community sponsors to partner with, so any business that is interested in (a fundraising partnership) should call the library at 610-273-3303.’
‘On behalf of the Board of Trustees I would like to thank Wimpy and Dee’s for partnering with us,’ said Shannon. ‘I would also like to thank all of my fellow board members and library volunteers for working hard and bringing this idea to reality in support of the library.’
The money raised for the HBCL through Dining for Dollars will go into a general fund for the library. This funding is used for both short term needs (such as programs, building repairs, and landscaping) as well as long term plans (chiefly the ongoing work toward library expansion).
The Honey Brook Community Library Board of Trustees would also like to remind its patrons and supporters to save the date for the library’s Golden Gala on April 13 at the Caernarvon Twp. Municipal Building’s social hall from 7 – 10 p.m. It will be a catered event featuring wine and hors d’oeuvres, a DJ, local authors and a silent auction.
