Twin Valley Hockey ices Cocalico/Garden Spot in regular season finale

On Sunday, January 20, the Twin Valley Raiders played the last game of the season against Cocalico/Garden Spot. It was an emotional game, especially for the four seniors playing the final regular season game of their high school careers. Captain Corey Biddle, and Alternate Captains Lew Applegate, Lyle Grove, and Andrew Huls all helped the Raiders close out the season with a dominating 10-2 victory, assuring no worse than a third place seeding heading into the Berks league playoffs one month hence.

The Raiders opened the scoring with a winger Justin Murry firing in a wicked wrist shot after receiving an assist from Cole Grove. Turner Stoltzfus doubled the advantage, with assists from Austin Mokrejs and Corey Biddle. Lyle Grove converted a pass from his brother Cole with the secondary assist going to Biddle to close out the first period.

Early in the second period winger Jack Mattera scored two goals on the same shift, first converting a pass from Lew Applegate and then scoring an unassisted goal from the high slot. Lyle Grove then scored a goal on assists from Justin Murry and Corey Biddle. Murry closed the second period with his second goal with an assist once again, to Biddle, who would finish with 6 points.

In quick succession to start the third period, Lyle Grove converted a pass from Biddle to score his second goal of the match, then Biddle scored one of his own, which was soon answered by a Cocalico/Garden Spot goal, before Lew Applegate scored netted a fine goal off a smart feed from Andrew Huls. The Applegate tally closed out the Raiders scoring, and Cocalico/Garden Spot added a late goal to bring the final to 10-2.

Alex Rhoads, Nick Delso, and Brandon Buckley played strong games, keeping the pressure on Cocalico/Garden Spot and off of Twin Valley goalies Eric Molchen and Ian Romig. The Raider net-minders were rarely tested, and both came up with big saves when needed.

Twin Valley closed the season with a final record of 11-3 and awaits the completion of the remaining league games to reveal who their opponent when the playoffs commence at the end of February.
