“This event is so fitting. Joanna Furnace is a love story in and of itself. You see, the iron furnace was named after Joanna Potts, wife of one of the early owners ,” says Mark Zerr, Executive Director for Joanna Furnace and the Hay Creek Valley Historical Association. “Our kitchen staff is excited to begin the 2013 season. Their chocolate chip pancakes bring something special to the Valentine’s breakfast, as does our chocolate fountain. It not only looks great and tastes wonderful, but the chocolate aroma makes it even more tempting! And, it will make the kids literally beg to eat fruit, fresh strawberries and pineapple, after they dip them in the chocolate fountain. I think we’ve found the perfect way to get kids to eat fruit . . . they love it. And it gives sweethearts a chance to offer even more chocolate to their significant other.”
The Valentine’s ambiance will be enhanced by area vocal stylist Phyllis Hummel. She will play her acoustic guitar and sing a variety of romantic ballads throughout the breakfast hours. Ms. Hummel is a familiar face to the local music scene. She has been performing for more than 20 years in the Tri-County area and has been the featured performer at many area establishments. Her musical selections will include “Making Believe” by Emmy Lou Harris, Elvis Presley’s “Love me Tender”, Johnny Mathis’ “Twelfth of Never”, “To Make You Feel My Love” by Garth Brooks and John Lennon’s “Grow Old With Me” plus many more favorites.
