A man driving a Subaru Legacy was killed around 6 a.m. Tuesday when his car crossed over into the northbound lane of Route 100, crashing head-on into a pickup truck and bursting into flames.

Devon Tyler Rosenberger, 26, of Gilbertsville, was pronuonced dead at the scene by the Berks County Coroner’s Office. A state police trooper from the Reading barracks said it appears the driver died of injuries from impact, not from the fire.

Keith Baker, 46, of Pottstown suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to LeHigh Valley Hospital.

Baker was driving a Chevrolet Silverado north on Route 100 when Rosenberger’s southbound car crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the pickup truck head-on.

The two cars came to a stop in the northbound lane of Route 100.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

The state police were assisted by the Berks County Coroner’s Office, the Eastern Berks Fire Department and Bally Ambulance.

(Updated 9:36 a.m.) WASHINGTON – A man driving a Subaru Legacy was killed around 6 a.m. Tuesday when his car crossed over into the northbound lane of Route 100, crashing head-on into a pickup truck and bursting into flames.

The vehicles came to a stop on the right side of the northbound lane.

Police and fire crews arriving at the scene quickly extinguished the fire. A state police trooper from the Reading barracks said it appears the driver died of injuries from impact, not from the fire.

The Eastern Berks Fire Company cut off the roof of the Subaru to remove the body.

The Subaru was completely charred from the fire and the front end was wedged under the pickup truck’s front end.

The crash is being investigated by state police at Reading and the state police fire marshal.

Route 100 remains closed from Meitzler to Hoffmansville roads while police clear the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the crash but was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital by ambulance, police said.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Route 100 remains closed from Meitzler to Hoffmansville roads while police clear the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the crash, police said.

(earlier version) WASHINGTON — Route 100 is shut down in both directions south of Hoffmansville Road after a crossover head-on crash early today. One person was killed in the crash.

JRC staff at the scene report the Berks County coroner is at the scene of the crash involving a pickup truck and car. The driver of the car was killed.

The road is shut down from Woodside Diner north to Hoffmansville Road. The crash occurred near Chestnut Street, just north of Bechtelsville. Police and fire crews are at the scene.
