Kutztown Community Library is hosting a special passport event in Kutztown on Saturday March 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to provide passport information to U.S. Citizens and to accept passport applications. The Library is joining the Department of State in celebrating Passport Day in the USA, a national passport acceptance and outreach event.
U.S. citizens must present a valid passport book when entering or re-entering the United States by air. U.S. citizens entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the U.S. government. There is a cost.
Information on the cost and how to apply for a U.S. passport is available at travel.state.gov. U.S. citizens may also obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 877-487-2778.
To successfully process a first-time passport application, you will need a State-issued birth certificate with a raised seal listing your parent’s names, valid driver’s license, passport photograph, two checks per application, and the unsigned application completed in black ink without the use of correction fluid. If you have had a previous passport, call the Library or check at travel.state.gov for renewal procedures. All applicants, including children, must be present when applying for a passport. Children under 16 must have both parents present and those ages 16 to 17 must have one parent present.
Currently, there is a four to six weeks processing time for passport. Expedited service can be requested for an additional $60 and your passport will arrive in two to three weeks. If you are traveling in less than 14 days, contact the National Passport Information Center.
To efficiently serve you, call the Kutztown Community Library at 610-683-5820 to confirm you have the necessary documents and to schedule an appointment. Passport agents will make every effort to accommodate “walk-ins” on March 9 but cannot guarantee processing your application without an appointment. In addition to Passport Day in the USA event, the Library has regular passport appointment hours: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10:30 to 6:30, Thursday and Friday 10:30 to 4, and Saturday 11:30 to 2:30. Kutztown Community Library is located at 70 Bieber Alley in Kutztown.
