Smiling faces, laughter, body shaking, and the latest international music is what makes a Zumba class unlike any other form of fitness. But what would inspire Twin Valley residents to spend three hours working out? The answer is simple, raising funds for those in need. Twin Valley Family Fitness and it’s team of licensed Zumba Fitness instructors have planned to host a Zumbathon Charity event on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to benefit a local family through The Goebel Fund.
When Morgantown Mom Dana Goebel was diagnosed with cancer, she could not have possibly predicted the outpouring of love and help that her community would provide. The Goebel Fund, established by several of Dana’s closest friends in the community, is the family’s new lifeline, providing funding for Dana’s chemotherapy treatments, travel expenses and care for her five children who range in age from 3 to 15 years. A recent Chicken BBQ event raised approximately $5,000 for the family, but the Goebels are still in desperate need of financial assistance to help them through this difficult time.
‘It just seemed like a perfect fit,’ stated Jennifer Hervey, owner of Twin Valley Family Fitness. ‘Our center is more than just a gym. We are here to help our community, and what better way to show that than by raising funds for a member of our community.’
But, what exactly is a Zumbathon?
‘A Zumbathon Charity event is a fun fitness concert event, with music, Zumba dance and inspiration. It’s a great way to raise money for a worthy cause by doing something good for yourself,’ said licensed Zumba fitness instructor, Megan McNicholas. ‘It doesn’t matter if you have two left feet. If you like music and you like to move, a Zumbathon is an amazing experience you will never forget.’
One hundred percent of the ticket sales will go directly to The Goebel Fund.
Participants will begin their Zumbathon experience with a short introduction to the Zumba program, basic rhythms and movements used. This tutorial is designed to help those who have never tried Zumba feel more comfortable once the party begins. Next, four of the best Zumba instructors in the area will lead a high energy Zumba class.
Tickets for this event are $15 and are available for purchase in advacne at Twin Valley Family Fitness, through participating Zumba instructors, or at the door the day of the event.
